There are so many fences that have been torn down, towers that have collapsed and old standards that have been challenged in recent decades … and (to me, at least!) it seems that with every old idea that we question the logic of, everybody is a little freer and a little happier. If your lucky September-born lady is also a Mum, we love the idea of the pink sapphire-eyed bunny brooch at the beginning of the article. It can be difficult to find Mums’ gifts that aren’t specific to the baby’s gender, but this gorgeous brooch takes the cake nicely. The bunny is made of 18ct yellow gold, with two pink sapphires of 0.02ct each as eyes, and a total length of 3.2cm overall. You can also choose this design in 18ct white gold, if your September-born loved one would prefer. Just make sure you buy her plenty of real nappy pins to go along with it … wouldn’t want her to mix up her gift in a moment of baby-brain induced insanity!

Though we’re most used to deep ocean blue as the colour of sapphires (with an occasional bright, feminine pink), they come in a massive variety of colours. As far as September birthstone gifts go, the golden sapphire and diamond ring at right is a very unusual one … and unusually well-priced, as well!
