Striking peridot and diamond pendant
It’s a chilly time of year, but it can actually be pretty easy to warm a lucky girl’s (or guy’s!) heart with the right birthday gift. The August birthstone harks forward to warmer mornings, longer days, and a refreshed feeling throughout the world – the gem is the ultra-clear light green peridot. Birthstone jewellery makes for an easily personalised, longlasting and universally appealing gift for August-born women, men, girls and boys. Today we pick out a few of our most popular pieces of all time, as well as some of the newer peridot jewellery items for August birthdays in store.
Pandora Lovepods mixed three pod 18ct yellow gold necklace
Peridot yellow gold stud earrings
Pearl, green peridot and purple iolite earrings
The peridot pendant at the beginning of the article is a quintessential August birthstone jewellery piece, with its generously sized peridot and affordable 9ct gold base. That asymmetrical gold framing gives the pendant a very contemporary edge – a great choice for females at the cutting edge of fashion, or who like things a little quirkier! A 0.03ct brilliant cut white diamond accents the peridot and yellow gold … like a reflected sunbeam set against a backdrop of grassy fields and golden sunshine. Ahhhh! The peridot is an oval cut stone, and at 7mm x 9mm is quite large – this gives it a 2.1ct weight, and the overall pendant is 1.7cm long. The chain you see on the picture is for display purposes – if your birthday girl doesn’t have an all-purpose chain that this will suit, check out our chain selection.
The Pandora Lovepods necklace at right is more of a luxury birthday gift … but it really is one that will be treasured forever. The base is a bright, gentle 18ct gold, and the necklace features three ‘pods’ – one peridot, one blue topaz and one red topaz. Topaz is actually one of the alternative birthstones for August, making this an especially suitable birthday piece! The chain is 45cm long – high enough to sit nicely above the neckline of your loved one’s clothes and be shown off wherever they go! Although this is a luxury item, it’s designed as an everyday wearer, with its slimline design and the gemstones sized so that they accent outfits rather than overwhelming or clashing with other colours.
The beautiful oval-cut peridot earrings at right are an obvious match for the August birthstone pendant at the beginning of the article. If your budget doesn’t stretch to getting your loved one a matching set for their birthday, bookmark these earrings anyway for a ready-made Christmas present! The peridots are 6mm x 8mm, the same proportions as the stone in the pendant, and they are also set in affordable (but beautiful!) 9ct yellow gold. If you’re buying a non-romantic present for a loved one (such as for your sister, mother or a platonic friend), birthstone earrings are especially suitable.
With their calm and mysterious under-ocean feel, the pearl, peridot and purple iolite earrings at right are quite different to most other birthstone pieces! The rounded, polished finish of the peridots and the iolites is not only a parallel for the pearls, but makes for a greater depth of colour … looking at them, you almost feel as if you’re watching seaweed waft around your face while staring outwards into the clouded purple depths! These gorgeous earrings are made for pierced ears – the post and butterfly fitting sit behind the joint of the top iolite and the top peridot stones. They are 4.5cm long – perfect if you want to add to your loved one’s costume or evening jewellery collection.
Remember, there’s actually an entire universe of jewellery waiting to unfurl into spring at Gilletts! But most of all, keep looking – this little selection is just the icing on a much bigger cake!
