Me to You Tatty Teddy Star Chain

You can celebrate that feeling, as well as giving some lovely thematic jewelry for this year, the International Year of Astronomy, with our Valentine’s Day jewelry gift suggestions. The universe holds many wonders, not the least of which are the stars, which humans have studied for decades. One of the brightest shining star of the jewelry world was the Great Star of Africa, the largets stone cut from the largest rough diamond ever found (the Culliana Stone, at 3106 carats). You’ll have to fight the Queen of England if you want to give this astronomical diamond as a Valentine’s Day Gift, though (as well as a host of other big men with black sunglasses on!). A much better bet is the Me to You Tatty Teddy pendant pictured at the beginning of the article – with its sweet star motifs, it is made of soft and budget-friendly sterling silver. The pendant comes with a chain (so there is nothing extra to buy to make it a complete present). At 45cm long, it is designed to be comfortable, yet sit high enough most clothing as to be show-off-able! The dangling stars feature blue cubic zirconias with a remarkable resemblance to blue topazes … and also a remarkable difference in price from blue topazes! Don’t get sucked into the idea that you have to spend money to show you care… the value of gifts is in their thought and intention, and this is a very sweet and fitting Valentine’s present!

The Inori Arabesque Star present is a themed piece of Valentine’s jewelry that will suit both women and men – its unisex design means that you can not only share in each other’s lives, you can share each other’s jewelry also  You will see there are actually two different pendants pictured (this is not a front and back view) – the two pendants make a set, however either will look as stylish as the other, on either him or her. It is made of Inori’s signature stainless steel, with delicate arabesque designs engraved into both sides. These are stand-alone items, so you can choose whichever chains you prefer, or pop these a favourite daily chain that you have already. With free shipping for these and every other product you buy in the same order, it might pay to stock up for birthdays, or even Christmas, as well!

Incorporating all the stellar flavour in a much more subtle way, is this aquamarine star-cut pendant. The stone is a .78ct aquamarine, and because these are relatively inexpensive stones, the pendant itself is very budget friendly. The 6mm stone is set on a white gold base, and the whole thing from top to bottom measures a dainty 1.2cm. The cut of the stone is such that a gorgeous shimmering star is revealed in the center … this is probably even a more realistically shaped piece of star jewelry than those above, a circle with a star-shaped shine! The aquamarine is the birthstone for March and the signature stone for Pisces, so this piece is especially suitable for March-born or Piscean ladies.

Astronomically-themed jewelry comes in more subtle variants, as well – like the equinox patterned titanium ring shown at right. Titanium rings have been one of the big jewelry phenomena for men in recent years, and there are now a wealth of styles. Many of the patterns have a space-theme to match the fatc that this is truly a space-age metal … stronger than steel, but 45% lighter. The equinox patterned ring is an homage to the balance and cosmic perfection that characterizes the two days of the year when the day is exactly as long a the night, with the minature globes split in two equal halves on the ring. It is made of a satin-finished titanium with a flat surface, and the blue areas are blue titanium, rather than PVD. The band is a slim but comfy 7mm for men’s hands, and you can engrave a message of love that extends beyond the universe inside the ring … for free! ;-) You can also get a silver and titanium version of this ring with a gentler look, as shown below the blue picture.

There are so many astronomically-flavored titamium rings, that it would be a pity to look only at one style – the solar ash one is a new color of titanium, developed recently, somewhere between grey and black. The polished finish gives the ring a supernatural look as well as a lovely glossy feel under finger. It is made in a nice middling 7mm wide, and there is space for an engraved message inside the ring … tell him how he makes you burn like the fires of the sun!

The Pandora range is another where you’ll find plenty of planetarily-inspired pieces of jewelry, like the mother of pearl and black cubic zirconia dangle necklace at right. The mother of pearl centrepiece (with its distinct similarity to the related moonstone pieces) contrasts beautifully against the black cubic zirconia, for a moon-on-night-sky look. The stones are set on Pandora’s signature oxidized sterling silver base, and there are accent stones set higher up on the chain also. Pandora jewelry is shipped for free all over Australia, remember … so you can use what you would have had to spend on shipping, getting something that much more special! There is plenty of matching moonstone jewelry for this gorgeous necklace, including the moonstone ring pictured below, a large and beautiful specimen set on oxidized sterling silver. There are also matching moonstone earrings, and a charm for Pandora bracelets.

Moonstone can also be seen in a different, rockier and more romantically barren incarnation, in the greyish stones that contrast with the bright turquoise of the pearls in these Pandora Earrings. They are set on Pandora’s traditional oxidized sterling silver, and the turquoise pearl and moonstone are set on deliciously long, free swingin 58mm chains. There is a whole host of matching jewelry for these, however none of the other pieces incorporate the spacey romanticism of moonstone.
