Garnets are an old-fashioned sort of stone, and are a little under appreciated these days! However, as the birthstone for people born under the Capricorn sign, it is absolutely suitable. Capricorns are traditionally conventional, cautious, hard working and responsible … the gorgeous dark, deep and classy color of the garnet reflects this so well. Not as fanciful and lighthearted as an emerald or aquamarine, and not as exotic as an opal or topaz, the garnet is a beautiful and really different way to adorn a unique piece of jewelry!

However, only those born until the 20th of January are Capricorns – from January 21st to 31st Aquarius rules. As so often happens with starsigns (they do this just to make it difficult for us!), the characteristics that so often rule in one of a month’s starsigns are the exact opposite in the other sign for the month.

So, Aquarians are pretty much the exact opposite of Capricorns! They are unconventional, individualistic and progressive. You could go for something featuring January’s alternate birthstone, which is rose quartz – as soon as there is an alternative to the norm, traditional Aquarians will be all over it. This rose quartz bracelet is a great buy for elegant Aquarians. The other great thing about rose quartz is that it is a more common stone, and therefore very affordable.

Rose quartz can also be a lovely alternative for Capricorns – it is almost always carved smooth, rather than faceted, which makes for a gorgeous understated look in jewelry for the shy, conventional Capricorn.
