Nomination bracelets can be as long or as short as you wish (provided they are long enough to fit round your wrist!), and this takes some of the worry out of buying jewelry as a gift – you can be sure it will fit, because if it doesn’t you can just add or subtract a couple of links! If you are new to these, then a great place to start as a gift for an October-born friend or loved one is with their birthstone. The opal is one of October’s birthstones – the other is tourmaline – however opal is infinitely more unisex, and most people love its rainbow-fire depths of color. You can get either the sophisticated white version of the opal, better for men’s jewelry gifts, or the red version, with flecks of blue and green. Both are pictured, and both cost the same amount.

But if you’d like to look a little further than the birthstone links (or if you already had that brilliant idea last year!), you can use your loved one’s starsign as a hint for the types of links they’ll like best. Librans are born between the 1st and 22nd of October, and are usually graceful, charming, balanced people. Scorpios take up the rest of the month, and are as fiery and passionate as Librans are balanced and fair! For Scorpios, you can go for links like the paint pallet pictured at right – you have probably seen the flare and idealism of the artist in your Scorpio friend… whether or not they can paint to save themselves!
