Emerald Cut Peridot White Gold Ring

Peridot was a much loved gemstone in ancient Egypt, and while not so well known as diamond, emerald, ruby or sapphire in the West, it has come to play a large part in gorgeous and affordable jewelry nowadays. The best quality peridot often comes from Pakistan, and the largest volume comes from Arizona, on the San Carlos reservation. It is usually a lovely clear gem, forged as it is in the lava under the Earth’s crust. It is also one of the more exotic gemstones, being the only mineral used in jewelry that comes from outer space - meteorites are sometimes found to contain peridot! Here we look at some gorgeous expressions of this ancient, gorgeous, fresh-looking mineral in birthstone jewelry for August birthdays.

One of the best things about the less expensive birthstones is that extravagant, elegant styles are easily affordable. The emerald-cut peridot ring at the top of the article is a great example - while it is daintily sized, the rectangular emerald cut is rarely seen outside of emeralds and diamonds. The band is a 9ct white gold (without nickel -our white gold is suitable for all skin types), made in a slim and delicate 1.5mm style. The width of the band and the straightforward style of the ring make it extraordinarily easy to resize - why not make your gift a surprise, and have it resized locally?

With similar vital signs, but a very different personality to the ring above it, is the unusual peridot ring at right. The stone in this ring is also a 4mm x 6mm piece, the band is made of 9ct white gold and is less than 2mm wide (in this case, 1.8mm wide). However, the traditional, antique feel of the emerald cut piece is completely different to this freeform, contemporary design. Fortunately though, the great value price is almost exactly the same!

The freshness and delicate color of peridots is readily apparent when they appear in jewelry alongside other gemstones - we love the contrast of rich, deep amethyst and fresh, light peridot in this pendant. Three sparkling white diamonds bring this piece out of the realms of the ordinary, making it a perfect evening wear piece. Each of the colored gemstones is a 4mm x 6mm oval cut piece, and the white diamonds are 0.02ct each. The gems are the centerpiece of the pendant, and are set on 9ct yellow gold for affordability. This is a stand-alone item, so you’ll need to either purchase a separate chain or make sure she has a favorite to pop it on.

The peridot and citrine ring at right is another lovely example of peridot’s versatility. The sweet citrus tang of this ring is complemented beautifully by the elegant half-eternity design. This ring is a little stronger and more solid than those at the beginning of the article, with a 4mm wide band which is also thicker than many, due to the channel setting of the stones. Peridot is the main stone, with five princess cut peridots and four princess cut citrines. It is a gorgeous romantic gift that’s not too sappy! These rings can be difficult to re-size, so you may want to spoil the surprise (to avoid the risk of spoiling the gift!).

Pandora jewelry has a lovely, mildly quirky personality, and the birthstone bead for August is a great way to incorporate peridot into your gift in an unusual way. The birthstone bead is not cut an polished in a traditional way, but rather faceted and left asymmetrical, preserving much of the stone’s weight and creating a gorgeous natural feel. Birthstone beads are one of the most cost-effective additions to a Pandora bracelet, with their budget friendly sterling silver setting. They are also one of the most reasonably priced Inspirations bracelets - the August birthday bracelet on sterling silver is pictured at right.

As quirky and left-field as they can be, Pandora pieces also have a certain elegance and cocktail-party feel that can’t be denied! The peridot flower charm at right is slightly more expensive than the birthstone one, because it is set on gorgeous quality 1ct gold. There are five peridots in the charm, and you can add to that number with any of the wide selection of complementary pieces. There are drop, dangle and stud earrings in matching designs, with pearls or in their simple peridot flower design, as well as a ring and a necklace. Readymade gift ideas for next birthday!

Peridots are one of the clearest gemstones available, and this makes them suitable for inclusion in even the daintiest pieces. The 2.5mm peridot earrings at right may be one of the smaller pieces in our collection, but they pack a big punch, sparkle-wise! The stones are 2.5mm across, prong set in 9ct white gold for affordability and easy coordination. These are great for women who don’t like to take their earrings out at the end of the day, or have a wide collection of everyday wear pieces.

Just as suitable for work and everyday wear, but with a little more movement and action, are the peridot earring attachments from the new Mix n Match earrings range by Pandora. The brand is all about choice, and what they’ve already created in bracelets, necklaces and anklets, they’ve now transferred to earrings. You’ll need to choose a set of mix n match earring hooks also - but while these are a one time cost, they’ll create hundreds of opportunities for great value earring choices in the future.

Peridots are sweet, affordable and versatile, and one of the simplest and easiest choices for August birthdays! If you haven’t yet found the perfect peridot piece, keep browsing in the peridot jewelry pages, or check out the range among the Pandora categories. If you need any help finding particular pieces, you can either use the advanced search function in the top right to search by keyword, or just click the Live Help link at the right of screen in the shop.
