Opals are the birthstone for everybody born in October, and they are an unusual jewelry stone in that they don’t need the traditional multifaceted cut (like a diamond, ruby or emerald) to catch the light and enhance their look. Libra

Libra is the star sign that covers much of October (from the 23rd Sep until the 23rd Oct), and the symbol for Libra is the scales. You could look for iconic Pandora beads or charms containing the scales symbol, or you could use your imagination and look for a piece which incorporates a more subtle sense of balance. Earrings are naturally balanced, as they are always sold in pairs. Look for necklaces with fixed settings, so that the balance-conscious Libra doesn’t have to constantly re-adjust the setting to the center front, and the clasp to the center back! Librans can also be notoriously indecisive – so don’t ask them what they want for their birthday! If anything, it may be a good idea to find several suitable gifts and give them a choice from your hand-selected range.

Scorpio

Scorpio rules from October 24th until November 22nd. Scorpios are passionate and energetic people – good stones to reflect this include all of the warmly colored, autumn stones we mentioned – ruby, garnet and bloodstone are the obvious choices. Deep red and black are Scorpio’s colors, so theses stones have double the impact. For the individual Scorpios out there, topaz is also Scorpio’s official stone, and is available in a light, effortless and ethereal range of delicate blues and greens.
